Minerva Barnes was the 4th of 12 children of Armstead Barnes (1809-1854) and Elizabeth Dowell (1814-1896) of Meade County, Kentucky.
Minerva was married to William Brandenburg on June 7, 1858.
Further information from the Elizabethtown newspaper states in part that Minerva Barnes Brandenburg died in her home in Elizabethtown at the age of 87 years old. The cause of her death was asthma and complications. She had been an invalid for many months and death ended a long period of suffering. Minerva was suvived by two daughters, Mrs. Amanda Fravel of Los Angeles, and Miss Alice Brandenburg of this city., four grandchildren, Mrs. Bessie Bean of Los Angeles, Harry A. Fravel of East Ely, Nevada, and Hallie and Rufus Brandenburg of this city, and two great grandchildren Francis and Travis Bean of Los Angeles.
Also surviving was a sister, Mary E. Fife of Louisville, and two brothers, W. W. (William Walker) Barnes of Guston, Kentucky and E. H. (Elijah Hicks) Barnes of (Trimble) Missouri. Funeral services for Minerva were held at 2:00 p.m. at the Baptist Church and were conducted by the pastor Rev. W. P. Stuart.
