Mildred Carolyn Hughes, 87, of Perry, Oklahoma was the daughter of Chester and Susie Matilda (Ewy) Bowers.

She was born October 15, 1918, at Perry, Oklahoma and died June 15, 2006, at Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry.

Mildred and Kenneth Herbert Hughes were married on March 7, 1936. Together they raised a loving family and were married for 60 years before his death on May 14, 1996.

She was baptized at the Sumner Christian Church and had been a member of the First Christian Church in Perry since 1952.

Mildred was employed for years at Foster Corner Drug. She enjoyed quilting, making jelly and dill pickles and watching television, particularly Little House on the Prairie, Andy Griffin, Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right.

Her fondest memories were her 16th birthday party barn dance, the wedding chivaree honoring her and her husband, annual Ewy reunions and the best cherry-limeade in town at Foster Corner Drug. She liked to dance, play cards and the game of Sorry and sitting on the front porch enjoying the flowers and birds. She enjoyed western swing, Lawrence Welk and Bowers family music.

She was a loving person known for her quick wit and funny stories. Mildred will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved family dinners with her children and grandchildren around her.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at the Sumner Cemetery at Sumner, Oklahoma. Rev Martin Foster will officiate. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home of Perry.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, OK 73077.

Mildred is survived by one son, Leon Hughes Sr. and his wife, Norma, of Perry, Oklahoma; two daughters, Vickie Morris and her husband, Pat, of Norman, Oklahoma and Donna Hill and her husband, Fred, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Leon Hughes Jr. and his wife, Kim, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Robyn Drury and her husband Dewayne, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Brooke Davis and her husband, Marcus, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Kristin Hurd and her husband, David, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Clayton Morris and his wife, Holly, of Norman, Oklahoma and Jeffrey Perkins and his wife, Beki, of Edmond, Oklahoma; eight great-grandchildren, Justin Hughes and Jordan Hughes, both of Edmond, Oklahoma, Ryan Hickman, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Logan Drury, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Jarron Davis, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Ethan Morris and Seth Morris, of Norman, Oklahoma and Halle Jo Perkins, of Edmond, Oklahoma; one sister, Myrtle Brewster, of Snyder, Texas; one brother-in-law, Wayne Speer, of Perry, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bowers, of Perry, Oklahoma and Margie Bowers, of Burkburnett, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and many cousins.

In addition to her husband, Kenneth, and her parents, Chester and Susie Bowers, Mildred was preceded in death by one son, Wesley Ray Hughes, two brothers, Morris Bowers and Donald Bowers, and one sister, Doris Speer.
