Part of Paul's childhood was spent on a farm near Decatur before his family moved into Decatur, where he graduated from high school in 1947.

Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army the day after graduation, where he became a staff sergeant with the 4th Armored Division.

Married Beverly Hubretse on October 15-1949

Attended Morningside College

Worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and retired after 38 years.
