Obit (May 1, 1939):
Joseph Bessette, 78 years of age, died at a local institution Saturday noon after a lingering illness. He had been making his home at 56 Maple Street, Burlington.

In his immediate family Mr. Bessette is survived by 12 children: George Stephen Bessette of Burlington, Mrs. William Godbout of Washington, Arthur Bessette, Nelson Bessette, Ernest Bessette, Mrs. Delia Burbeau, Edmund Bessette, Mrs. William Smith, Wilfred Bessette, Albert Bessette, Mrs. Bertha Hill and Allen Bessette, all of Burlington; also by three sisters, Mrs. Fannie Young of Burlington, Mrs. Rose Loker of Berlin, N.Y., and Mrs. Victoria Martel of Winooski; by four brothers, William Bessette, Charles Bessette and Moses Bessette of Burlington and Nelson Bessette of California and by 45 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday morning at 9. Interment will be in Mount Calvary cemetery.
