Additional:
Shirley was one of 8 children born to Sherman & Lucy (Gregory) Storm. As a child growing up, she played in the marching band playing the clarinet & was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Marie and her parents.
After her divorce from Jack Shephard in 1969, she raised her 6 daughters to the best of her ability. She took courses at Tulsa Vo-Tech to update her skills. For many years she worked at Frank's Pawn Shop in downtown Tulsa, OK. She moved to Texas with her sister, Pat, for a few years and then on returning to Oklahoma became a house-parent at the Sand Springs Children Home. Then did clerical work at Tulsa Job Corps in Tulsa.
She loved her family; not only her children & grandchildren but her sisters, brothers and their families. She was happiest when among family and playing games. She remained an avid reader until just a few months before passing away. She loved to travel, play bingo and nickel/quarter slot machines and she loved seeing her children and grandchildren excel in life & their pursuits.
Upon, having a physical for work she was diagnosed January 30th, 1997 with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. She decided to have a mastectomy in February 1997. The cancer spread to her lungs & spine and eventually took her life. Being on a limited budget & not eligible for disability she lived with her daughters, Christy & Phyllis the last few months of her life. Her sisters, Ruth, Pat & Gail were often close by as were her other daughters-Rozie, Sharon & Patty - she was seldom left alone as we all spent as much time as we could with her. She passed away at St John's Hospital surrounded by family talking, laughing & playing games around her with sweet gospel music playing in the background.
Note: Burial took place 26 Aug 1997.
