Great Aunt Lillie was the 9th child of Henry Elye and Nancy Ann(George)Gibson. She was born in the Oak Grove Community of Bamberg County, SC. She married for the first time very late in life. Her one true love, Buddie Albert Ayer, became her husband on 25 Dec 1964. Unfortunately, he passed just 18 years later. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Ehrhardt and loved by all.

Ehrhardt - Services for Lillie Ruth Gibson Ayer, 94, will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with burial at Ehrhardt Cemetery. Visitation will be at Cooner Funeral Home, Bamberg, tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.; and at the home of Mrs. Nancy Nix Jacobs, 1303 Macklen St. Mrs. Ayer died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997. Born in Ehrhardt, she was a daughter of the late Henry E. and Nancy Ann George Gibson. She was a member of Young at Heart, Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and was formerly employed with the Ehrhardt school lunch program.
Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
