COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Mrs. Ruby Barber Tolbert, 78, of Columbia, will be held 12:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, February 18, 2005, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, conducted by The Rev. Owen Tucker. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:30 o'clock prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Peterson Presbyterian Church, 8131 Brookfield Road, Columbia, SC 29223 or to The Alzheimer's Association, Palmetto Chapter, P. O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202.
Mrs. Tolbert, widow of Albert H. Tolbert, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005. Born in Columbia, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Sam W. and Cora Rabon Barber. She was retired from the Department of Army, Fort Jackson. Mrs. Tolbert served as a volunteer with Providence Hospital and was a member of Peterson Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son, Diane Gossett Clark and William Russell Gossett; five grandchildren, Dawn Clark, Tara Clark, Jackie Rivers, Barbara Arehart and Bill Gossett all of Columbia. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren and a sister, Edna B. Snipes of Columbia. Mrs. Tolbert was preceded in death by five sisters and her first husband, James R. Gossett.
