From John's 1925 census entry, Grundy County - he was the son of Claus Rohwer and Francis Bock.

According to his 1900 census entry, he immigrated in 1866. In the 1870 and 1880 censuses he is living with his parents in Scott County, Iowa. In 1885 he is with his parents in Tama County, Iowa.

John and Anna were married March 3, 1891 at Toledo, Tama County, Iowa. Their children were: Olga, Albert, Lizzie, Harvey, Minnie, Esther and George.

John Rohwer, 79 resident of Grundy County for 50 years, died at his home two miles west of Grundy Center at 3:30 p.m., Saturday. He had been in poor health for several years.

He was born in Germany, April 1, 1864, and came to this country with his parents, Claus and Francis (Bock) Rohwer, when he was one year old. The family settled in Scott County. He was married in 1891 to Anna Siemers and they came to Grundy Center to a farm north of Beaman.

Surviving are his widow; one son, George at home; three daughters, Mrs. Henry Kitzman of Beaman, Mrs. Minnie Wood of Waverly and Esther, Chicago; five sisters; Mrs. Henry Arp of Gladbrook; Mrs. Caroline Schimmer, Calumet; Mrs. Celia Carstensen, Pipestone, Minnesota; Mrs. Vena Ballhorn, Marshalltown; Mrs. Katherine Kensinger, Tama; two brothers; Henry Rohwer of Garwin and George Rohwer of Grinnell and eight grandchildren. Three children preceded him.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the home Wednesday. In charge of Rev. J. Clifton Lee of the Methodist Church, Beaman. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Beaman
