Caroline Schimmer, nee Rohwer, was born at Walcott, Iowa, on Sept. 10, 1869, the daughter of Claus and Frances Rohwer. She passed away at her home in Sutherland, Iowa, on July 3, 1953, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 23 days. She had been a resident of O'Brien County for 48 years, and for the past 4 years had made her home in Sutherland. Her early life was spent in Scott and Tama Counties.

She was united in marriage to John Schimmer on Dec. 15, 1891, at Toledo, Ia. To them were born 3 children, two of whom preceded their mother in death. One son died in infancy, and a daughter, Frances, passed away in 1919. John Schimmer passed away in 1941. Three brothers and three sisters also preceded Caroline in death.

Mrs. Schimmer was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church of Calumet, and was also a charter member of the Women's Guild of that church.

Survivors include one son, Roy, of Sutherland, 3 sisters: Mrs. Celia Carstenson of Pipestone, Minn., Mrs. Vena Balhoun of Waterloo, Ia, and Mrs. Kate Kessinger of Tama, Ia, one brother, George Rohwer of Montour, Ia, 5 grandchildren: Clarence Mugge of Paullina, Gladys Mugge Faust, also of Paullina, Delbert Mugge of Beamen, Ia, Duane Schimmer and Dale Schimmer, both of Sutherland, and 8 great grandchildren.
