UNION - Mildred Petty Austin, 71, of 250 Old English Road died April 16, 2000, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.

A native of Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late James T. and Lizzie Frost Petty. She was a charter member of Morningside Baptist Church, where she taught the pre-school Sunday School Class for over 30 years. She was formerly employed with the Union Daily Times.

Surviving are her husband, Ralph M. (Doc) Austin, Sr.; one daughter, Judy A. Yarbrough of Union; two sons, Ralph M. Austin, Jr. of Buffalo, and P. Michael Austin of Union; two sisters, Joyce P. King of Buffalo and Ruby P. Varner of Union; two brothers, Jackie R. Petty of Buffalo and J.T. Petty of Union; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Holcombe Funeral Home in Union. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Eddie Saxon, Joe Stover and Randy Smith. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Hospice Assoc., Suite 300, 120 Heywood Ave., Spartanburg, 29302.
