William D. Carr, Jr., 88, formerly of the Portage Lakes area and most recently of Kent, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by his family on January 8, 2015.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a hookman on the USS Bon Homme Richard. He worked at Goodyear Aerospace and later retired from the B.F. Goodrich Company after 32 ½ years of service. William was a former member of the East Liberty Church of the Nazarene and attended the Chapel on Fir Hill since 1994. He was a devoted Christian who loved God and family. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowled in the Twin Star Senior league.

William was preceded in death by parents, William D. Sr., and Lovena (Osborne); brothers, Fleetwood, Charles, Edward Clayton (died serving in World War II), Arden, Wesley and Richard; sisters, Mary and Melva. He is survived by wife of 68 years, Clara H. (Adams); sons, William D. (Pam) Carr III, Terry W. (Kathy) Carr; daughter, Debby (Pat) Meagher; and sisters, Hazel (Ken) Taylor and Helen (Tom, deceased) Harless; grandchildren, Cindy (John) Beech, Billy Carr, IV, Jodi (Michael) Del Ferraro, Shawn (Robin) Carr, Terri Lynn Daley (Jacob Mugford), Nikki (Robby) Engle, Shannon (Trung) Quan, Kelly (Jason) Beard; and 17 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; and many other family and friends.
