Melvin W. McElroy

Melvin Willis McElroy, long-time Garden Citian, died early today at his home at 1310 A following an illness of several months.

Mr. McElroy, a retired farmer, was 82.

He was born July 26, 1876, in Schuyler county, Mo. He had lived in the Garden City community for the past 33 years. In December, 1900, he married Lydia Yust in Sylvia.

He farmed at Sylvia until 1924 when he moved to a farm north of Deerfield. Mr. McElroy was affiliated with the Baptist church.

Surviving are his widow, of the home; five sons, Albert of Richmond, Calif., William of Garden City, Glen of Deepwater, Mo., Harold of Sugar Creek,Mo., and john of Perryton, Tex.; three daughters, VIolet McElroy of Garden City, Dorothy Armstrong of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Connie Donaldson of Englewood, Colo; a brother, William, of Greensburg; a sister, Mrs. Cora Snowbarger of Greensburg; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Phillips chapel with the Rev. Carl Ingersol in charge. Burial will be in Valley View cemetery.
