After high School, Alta worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne, where she met Lester, her husband of 72 years. She and Lester moved to Erie in 1956. Alta was an active member of St. Mary Episcopal Church in Lawrence Park. She also enjoyed participating in the numerous activities sponsored by the Erie GE Apprentice Wives. She was an avid reader; proud to be one of 12 children and often spoke of her childhood as a member of a large family.
Alta was preceded in death by her husband Lester; her daughter Barbara Jager; and ten of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Wagner, and her husband, Joseph, of Erie. She is also survived by four grandchildren; her sister Norma Francis and her husband, Jim, of Forth Wayne; along with eight great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
