"Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother"
Connie Jean Affleck Sundwall passed away peacefully surrounded by all her children on November 23, 2015 of heart failure. Connie Jean was born May 17, 1940 in Salt Lake City to Robert Charles and Afton Grant Affleck, the third of their five children. Music was an essential part of her life from an early age. She blessed the lives of many by teaching and sharing her gift throughout the years. As a naturally gifted and accomplished musician Connie Jean won the prestigious Baugh Cup for vocal performance in her Jr. year of high school. She graduated from Preston High School a year early with honors and continued her vocal studies at Utah State Univ. and the Univ. of Utah. Connie Jean was encouraged to pursue the Metropolitan Opera and study in Europe but while attending the Univ. of Utah she met her handsome, eternal sweetheart and companion, Peter Val Sundwall. Wonderful adventures filled the lives of Connie Jean and Pete. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 9, 1960 and together they had seven children. Shortly after Pete finished his medical studies, they lived in St. Louis, MO where Pete finished his residency. Then came service in the United States Air Force and moves to San Antonio, TX and Cheyenne, WY. Pete and Connie Jean raised their family for 9 years in Kanab, UT and returned to the Salt Lake City area in 1979. Connie Jean is a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many different capacities. Connie Jean's greatest pleasure came from being a wife and mother. Her family was always her first priority. Our memories of Connie Jean will always remind us of her innate goodness, her constant smile, and her kindness to all she came in contact with and who knew her. Her courage in enduring the challenges that life presents and the constant twinkle in her eyes will inspire us for years to come. The family wishes to thank all those who provided friendship, comfort, and tender care to Connie Jean.
Connie Jean was preceded in death by her husband Peter Val Sundwall; her parents, Robert Charles Affleck, and Afton Grant Affleck; her brothers, Robert Horace, Loy James, Grant Charles Affleck; and her beloved son Steven Sundwall.
