Our sweet and cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Afton Grant Affleck has completed her earthly mission. She passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side Sept. 23, 1997.

Afton was born May 14, 1918 to Horace James and Leila Moss Grant in Holbrook, Idaho. She married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Charles Affleck, Sept. 6, 1934, in the Salt Lake Temple. This incredible woman touched many lives both far and near. She was a valiant and devoted member of the LDS Church serving in many capacities. She was a temple officiator in the Salt Lake, Logan and Jordan River temples. She served on the YWMIA General Board and the Correlation committees. Afton and Robert served a temple mission in the Los Angeles mission. She was the founder of the volunteer work at the Salt Lake Juvenile Detention Center and was a gifted writer and author of "Love Is The Gift." Afton enjoyed being a member and officer of the DUP and Opera Association. She was a beautiful woman both inside and out and an inspiration to all. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends worldwide.

Special thanks to her son-in-law, Dr. Peter Sundwall, for his loving care.

Afton is survived by her son, Grant Charles Affleck; daughter, Connie Jean Affleck Sundwall (Dr. Peter); son, Steven Ray Affleck, Sr. (Karin). She was proud of her 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, Conway (Phyllis); J. Dell (Beverly); Cal (Mary); and sister in law, Lucille. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert C. Affleck, infant sons Robert Horace Affleck and Loy James Affleck, brothers Dwain, Keith, Clarence and Horace. Also preceded in death by grandson, Steven Grant Sundwall.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, 1997 at the Little Cottonwood 5th Ward Chapel, at 1693 E. 6485 S. (Rodeo Lane) in Salt Lake City. Friends may call at the Jenkins Soffe Funeral Home, 4760 So. State, Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and at the chapel before services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
