Annie Murray, Kin of Pioneer Family, Dies

Mrs. Annie Murray, whose parents were among the first residents of Wild Horse Valley more than 90 years ago, died last night [January 5] in a local convalescent home. She had been ill for two weeks.

Mrs. Murray was born in Napa 82 years ago, and spent the first 17 years of her life on the family ranch in Wild Horse Valley. When the city of Vallejo purchased the property from her parents, the late Peter and Mary Madison, they moved to Napa.

She was employed at the Napa State Hospital where she met and married the late Owen Murray, supervisor at the hospital for many years until his retirement in 1935. Her home in recent years was at 1335 E St.

She was the mother of Emmett Murray of Oakland, Justin and Frank Murray of Napa; the sister of Mrs. Agnes Muller of Napa, Mrs. Amy Johnson of Burlingame and Mrs. Isabelle Griggs of San Francisco; the grandmother of Richard Murray, Mrs. Nelson Bettencourt Jr., Ann Murray and Sylvia Murray, all of Napa, and Terry Murray of Moffett Field Naval Air Station. One great-grandchild also survives.

Rosary will be recited tomorrow at 8:30 p.m., at the chapel of Cuff and Pierce Funeral Service. Requiem Mass will be offered at St. John's Catholic Church Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Tulocay Cemetery.
