Thomas Morford Throckmorton, M. D. born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania in April 1852. He moved to Lucas County, Iowa in April 1856 with his parents and an older and younger brother, living in a double log cabin on the paternal farm near Derby. He engaged in farm work until his teens. He attended the Chariton School and Garden Grove Seminary. In 1872 he returned to Pennsylvania and entered Waynesburg College, where he later received his Master of Arts degree. He received a diploma from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1877. Pracrticed medicine at Derby from 1877 until August 1888 when he located in Chariton, where he practiced for over 50 years. Married Mary Ann Bentley (August 1878), daughter of John Andrew Jackson and Annie Scott Bentley.
