Richard Lee Feehan, 57, of Newton died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton with the Rev. Ernest Braida officiating. A rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. before the funeral service. Burial will be at Metz Cemetery in rural Newton. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Visitation is planned after 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Robert Bartholomew Feehan Sr. and Mildred Mary Scieszinski, he was born Oct. 9, 1947, in Melrose. He graduated from Albia High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

On Dec. 24, 1968, he married Gennie Marie Cupp in Newton. He worked for RF Roofing for eight years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, Moose Lodge, Sunrise Terrace Tenants Association, involved with VFW "Cooties" and was a life member of Newton VFW.

Survivors include a son, James Feehan of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Mary Feehan of Newton; two sisters, Sister Lucille Feehan of Melrose and Barb Ruepke of Chariton; two brothers, Bernard Feehan of Woodburn and Vince Feehan of Melrose; and his mother of Albia.


He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Gennie; brothers, Robert Jr. and Donny Feehan; and a sister, Geraldine Feehan. He died in a fire with his companion, Rhita Haas.
