"The Child is Dead."
("Death lies on her like an untimely
frost")

Though the old must die, the young do die, has been verified by Annie, little daughter of Capt. J.Y. Webb of Minden, who died at her father's home on the 30th of Sept. 1882. She was two years, eight months, and three days old. She has contributed her dying testimony to the fact that death's great scythe mows down little children with the rest of mankind. Her stay on earth was short, yet she drank deeply of its pain. She suffered a great deal during her last illness, but has now gone up to that painless world, where she laughs at the attempt of disease to dispossess her of that bright home. She had no idea of this world, and its people beyond what she saw in the family circle, and she has now gone away without a knowledge of its good and its evil. Thus life is ended, and so she has escaped the cares and sorrows, incident, with but a few exceptions, to the lives of older persons. Friends mourn, who does not. They have lost, she has gained. However, she has left a Christian family; hence they can receive the injunction of the Apostle where he says: "But I would not have you to be ignorant brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not even as other, which have no hope." This bereaved family has the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
