Mrs. Etta Mae DeFrates, of 1028 E. Enterprise St., died suddenly yesterday morning at a hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. She had gone to California to visit a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Thean, who resides at Inglewood, a suburb of Los Angeles. Mrs. DeFrates was 70 years old.

She was born in Sangamon county March 17, 1882, and resided in the county her entire lifetime.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Sanders and was married to William R. DeFrates in 1897.

Mrs. DeFrates is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Thean; Mrs. Dorothy Townsend, San Francisco, Calif.; and Mrs. Myrtle Samonds, Springfield; four sons, Everett, Alton; Earl, Lawrence and Melvin DeFrates, all of Springfield; and one brother, Frank Sanders, Springfield.

Remains will be returned to Springfield and will be received by Ellinger & Kunz funeral home.
