Roy and Dorothy met at Baldwin school east of Arkansas City. She sat behind him in class and would tease him. Roy describes her as a freckled nose girl with a Dutch haircut. Dorothy graduated from ACHS in 1946. While going to school, she and sister, Wilma worked at C.R. Anthony’s.
She married Roy August 18, 1946. They began married life on a farm in Cedar Vale, KS. They moved to Arkansas City, purchasing their first house at 908 N. 10th St. Roy was employed at Bryant’s Hardware.
In the 1950’s, Roy established Fultz Electric with Dorothy by his side. In 1960, they moved to 500 S. B St. and continued with the electric company with Dorothy as the bookkeeper. She was good at numbers as it seemed to be her thing. Dorothy provided a home, meals, pleasant environment and love for her family, every day of her life. She is an excellent example of a virtuous woman, Christian wife and mother. In preparation for family vacations, Dorothy would pack up the gear, shop for food, prepared all meals for the family. While camping, she never once complained or asked “Where’s my vacation?”
Dorothy always wanted to be a nurse. After the kids were grown, she worked as a nurse aide at the Memorial Hospital. She cared for her father-in-law and an elderly neighbor, Mary Hall for several years. Even in her last years, she was more concerned with family, than herself, putting them first. Like Paul, she fought the good fight, finished the race. She kept the faith. She will receive the crown of righteousness.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Roy C. (John) Fultz of the home; son Jonathan of Arkansas City, daughter, Gayle Tallaksen and husband Steven of Nixa, MO; her 7 seven grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and her two sister, Eva Beeks of Arkansas City, KS and Jessie Stout of Texas. Preceding her in death are her parents, 2 brother, Alvin and Robert “Bob” Boyer, and 3 sisters, Ruth, Allene and Wilma.
