Feb. 16, 1948 -- Scripture and prayer service was held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Workman Funeral Home in Perry for Mrs. I. C. Stine, 77, who passed away Tuesday. The Rev. Paul Miller gave the scripture reading and prayer at the service. "Death Is Only A Dream" was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Marshall, accompanied by Mrs. Harold Garrett. Rev. Miller officiated at funeral services held for Mrs. Stine at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Brethren at Panther. He was assisted by the Rev. O. F. Shaw of Adel, who gave the prayer at the funeral service. "Sunrise" and "Gathering Home" were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Marshall, accompanied by Mrs. Garrett. Casket bearers were Milford Sheaffer, Olin Stine, Loren Stine, Gordon Stine, Ray Stine and Ernest Behn. Burial was at the Church of the Brethren Cemetery at Panther. Lydia B. Sheaffer, daughter of Martin and Anna Boyer Sheaffer, was born August 16, 1870, near Lena, Illinois. Her spirit took its flight on February 3, 1948 at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 18 days. When she was five years old, she came to this community, and lived in this neighborhood with the exception of one year. On February 28, 1894, she was united in marriage to I. C. Stine. To this union were born four sons, Galen, William, Martin and Ira, all of Adel. One sister and one brother preceded her in death. Surviving besides her husband and four sons are one sister, Mrs. O. D. Emmert, Adel; three brothers, A. B. Sheaffer and Martin Sheaffer of Adel, and John Sheaffer of Salem, Oregon; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She came into the Church of the Brethren during her teens and served in many ways, especially in Women's Work and as a deaconness.
