June M. Heinzel, age 74, of Portage, died on Monday, December 8, 2008 in Baraboo.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage. Inurnment will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The luncheon will be held at the Elks Lodge in Portage following all the services.
June was born on July 12, 1934 in the Town of Oasis, Plainfield, Wisconsin, the daughter of Earl and Marie (Kaatz) Ames. She worked for the State of Wisconsin Unemployment Compensation Division for several years, after which she became self-employed, owning and operating multiple businesses in the hospitality industry. June had resided in Portage for the last 25 years. She enjoyed crafting, sewing and quilting, and sharing time with her many friends and relatives.

She is survived by three sons, Robert (Ana) Morgan and granddaughter, Katharine Morgan, Stoughton/Madison, Gary Heinzel, Milwaukee, and Randy (Amy) Heinzel, Pardeeville; her brothers and sisters, Ione Schwersinske, Clinton, WI, Eleanor (Richard) Schmidt, Port Edwards, WI, Arnes Ames, Tennessee, Douglas (Virginia) Ames, Brodhead, WI, Glora Mae (Marlin) Kraus, Withee, WI, David Ames, Ogma, WI, and Daniel Ames; other near relatives and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, by Clem Heinzel, her brothers, Sonny Ames, Lawrence Ames, Dewey Ames and Arnold Ames, and her sister, Mary Lou Ames.

Helen was a resident of Divine Savior Healthcare Extended Care since 1999. The family thanks the nursing home staff for their tender loving care.
