Gladys was the sixth of eight children born to Orchis Robert & Almeda (Arnold) Williams. She was married Feb 26, 1933 in Westfield, Indiana to Lawrence J. Overman. To this union were born two children

Mrs. Gladys M. Overman, 102, of Lebanon and formerly of Westfield, died Sept. 7, 2013, at Signature Healthcare Parkwood.

Mrs. Overman was born Feb. 6, 1911 in Parke County, IN, a daughter of Orchis Robert and Almeda (Arnold) Williams. Both parents are deceased. She was married to Lawrence J. Overman, Feb. 26, 1933. He died Dec. 12, 1990.

Gladys lived in Eagletown from 1933 until 1950. They moved to Westfield in 1950 where she resided until 2002 when she moved to Lebanon to live with her daughter, Agnes (Jerry) Breedlove. While living in Westfield, Gladys worked several years at the Westfield Locker, the W.H. Blocks in The TrimTime Shop and at Blocks in the Red Cross shoe department until she retired in 1966.

Gladys had many stories to tell about events in her life; she worked as a cook in the Westfield cafeteria and cooked breakfast for John Dillenger – she was fascinated by how bright his white shirt was; she felt he was a good person. The father, whom she also cooked for, complained of his inability to make a living and she felt that was the cause of his downfall. She also told about the time President Lyndon Johnson came to Indianapolis and a gust of wind blew his big white Stetson off and it landed close to where she was standing.

Gladys liked to quilt and enjoyed making them for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking family dinners and canning vegetables she had grown in her garden. She spent yearly family vacations at Bright Lake in Canada. Gladys also liked listening to Lawrence Welk reruns, IU basketball games and WIBC radio programs.

Survivors include her children: Agnes (Jerry) Breedlove of Lebanon and Adrian (Janeen) Overman of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren: Jill (David) Crosby-Dean, Joy Stewart and Will (Darcy) Overman all of Lebanon and Margaret (Lance Smith) Overman of Burlington, VT; great-grandchildren: Hannah Crosby, Alexis (Lexi) Stewart, Nicholas Stewart, Joshua Overman and Loraine Overman all of Lebanon, Keats Overman-Smith of Burlington, VT, and step great grandson Matthew Dean of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters, a brother, step grandson and grandson-in-law.

Family and friends will gather Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 for visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at Summit Lawn Cemetery in Westfield with Rev. Dr. Frederick Niedner officiating.
