Lad Is Ill With Diphtheria and Professor McKinney Is In Shamokin State Hospital For Treatment
The death of Mrs. R. H. Gearhart, formerly Miss Mary Cornman, of Carlisle, is not the only affliction which the family has to bear at this time. A grandson, Jack Gearhart, son of the Rev. E. M. Gearhart, is ill with diphtheria at Montoursville and a son-in-law, Professor L. H. McKinney, Sunbury is receiving treatment at the Shamokin State Hospital.
Marion Gearhart, a son of Mrs. Gearhart, left yesterday for Sunbury where he will remain until after the funeral. The esteem in which the former Carlisler was held is evinced by the following tribute from the Sunbury "Daily:"
"She was a kind, motherly lady and her splendid Christian influence induced two of her sons to enter the ministry and expound the Gospel. She was a active, consistent member of the Zion Lutheran church (sic) and was affiliated with various church societies and used her influence to promote the welfare of the church. She was a devoted and loyal wife, a fond mother and a kind and true friend. During her period of suffering she bore her affliction with patient, Christian fortitude and her stocism won the admiration, esteem and pity of hundreds of friends, who each day inquired anxiously after her condition and when the news of her relapse and death came, it cast a pall of grief over the community.
