Luther Thomas Martin Plummer was born in 1811 in Caroline County, Maryland, to Philemon and Sarah Holland (widow of William Harrison). LTM had 2 sisters, Anna and Sarah, 3 brothers, Philemon Holland, Edgar, and James Pratt, a half brother, William, and a half sister, Mary Elizabeth.

LTM left Maryland and went to Canada to fight Indians, but was forced into hard labor in the mines. He escaped from there and went to Illinois, where he met the Parkers. LTM married Rachel Parker in 1833 and came to Texas with her family. They had 3 children, James Pratt, LTM Jr, and Wilson. Rachel died and LTM married Sarah Elizabeth Lauderdale. They had 7 children: William Edgar, Mary Ann, Edwin, Sara, Rebecca, Jo Anna, and John Wesley. After Sarah's death, he married Angeline Glenn and they had eleven children: Philemon Holland, Martha Jane, Daniel, Abraham, Sam Houston, Amanda Ellen, Hinton Smith, Charles Newton, Emma Angeline, Henry and Joshua.
