George E. Varner, 85, of 4830 Varner Lane, Nashport, died at 5:05 a.m. Thursday at Good Samaritan Medical Center of natural causes.
Born May 2, 1893, at Cottage Hill, he was a son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Jane Claypool Varner. He was preceded in death in 1971 by his wife, Charlotte Gladden Varner.
He was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, a retired farmer and schoolteacher, and a veteran of World War I.
Surviving are three sons, David Orris of San Diego, Calif., Joseph Elmer of St. Louis, Mo., and Robert E. of 4685 Varner Lane; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Mr. Varner's home. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Huston officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery. Baughman and Sons of Frazeysburg is in charge.
