Herman E. Pagel, age 93, of Chilton died on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born on February 19, 1920 in Rantoul, son of the lake Herman E. Sr. and Emma (Kind) Pagel.
Ge married Grace Knorr on June 24, 1941;they farmed together for 40 years. In 1983 they decided to rent out their farm and in 1993 they sold the farm to their grandson and moved to Chilton.
He was a member of Ebenezer UCC, was instrumental in the creation of the Calumet County Historical Society, served on the goard of ASCS, and was one of the 7 founding members of the Calumet County Riding Club. Throughout his life, Herman was an avid historian, and a Brewer and Packer fan.
He is survived by his Children,: Marvin (Simone) Pagel of New Holstein, Donald (Kristine) Pagel of Chilton, 4 grandchildren: Eric (Cathy) Pagel of New Holstein, Lisa (Scott) Wold of MN, Timothy (Pam) Pagel of Chilton; Jeffery Pagel of Chilton; 6 great-grandchildren: Ashley and Alex Pagel, Jack Wold, Hailey Tesch, Mason and Lexi Pagel. 2 sisters-in-law: Cordy Knorr of Manitowoc, Jenny Knorr of North Carolina; and a brother-in law, Lawrence Schlais of Medford. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: His wife, a son: James Pagel, 3 brothers and sisters-in-law Ted (Elva, Ruth) Pagel, John (Vivian) Pagel, Arno (Marion) Pagel; a sister and brother-in-law Olive (Walter) Jaeger, 2 brothers-in law Rueben Knorr, Jr, Roy Knorr; and 2 sisters-in-law Janette(Bud) Wedemand and Betty Schlais.
Funeral service wil be at 11:00 am on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Ebenezer UCCC(44 W. Washington) with the Rev. Michael Safford-Kennedy officiating. Friends may call at the curch on Monday from 9:00 am until 10:45 am.
