Mrs. Mathis died August 21, 2006 at her home. She was born in Madison County daughter of the late A. A. and Ida Mae Flake Mainord and was educated in the local schools. Mrs. Mathis was a retired employee of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with 26 years service. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Mathis was a devoted and loving mother grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mitchell Wilson Mathis on August 6 1987, to whom she was married in 1947; two sons John Wayne Mathis and Jerry Mitchell Mathis and a brother Alphis Mainord.
Survivors include three sons Ray Mathis and wife Joyce, Larry Mathis and wife Amy all of Lexington TN and James Mathis of Beech Bluff TN; two daughters Kay Walters and husband Cecil of Trenton TN and Brenda Rouse and husband Mike of Pinson TN; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and a brother W. M. Mainord of Beech Bluff TN.
