John Wayne Mathis "Wayne", 44, self-employed roofer, died Wednesday of cancer at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Services were Friday at Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Wayne was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Mr Mathis leaves two daughters; Misty Long of Brownsville & Courtney Warren of Lovelville; his mother, Dorothy Elizabeth Mainord Mathis of Beech Bluff; two sisters, Kay Walters of Trenton & Brenda Rouse of Pinson. Also surviving are four brothers; Jerry, Ray & James Mathis all of Beech Bluff & Larry Mathis of Lexington and one granddaughter.
