My mother, Beulah Edith (Wolford) Norris was the third of ten children born to John Thomas Wolford and Lela Dessie Phillips. She was born Oct. 27, 1901, Indian Territory, OK and died Dec. 27, 1992, Pampa, TX, at the home of her daughter, Mildred Fulton. Burial - Crowell Cem., Crowell, TX. She married my father, Leander Grady Norris Dec. 23, 1922, Hunt Co., TX and over the next twenty years, nine children were born. My father was a farmer. During the 30-years of marriage they moved numerous times between East and West, Texas finally settling in Crowell, TX abt. 1949/50 where they wheat-farmed until his death in 1953.
In 1955 my mother, my brother Bill and I moved to Pampa, TX where mother owned and operated "Norris Help Yourself Laundry". This was a monumental task for her going from being a helpmate and partner to my father to owning and operating a business. This lasted until 1959 when she closed the business because the new "automatic" Laundromats were becoming more and more popular.
Mother was a member of the Mary Ellen/Harvester Street Church of Christ and Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was survived by one son William "Bill" Norris (Gloria Norris) of Pampa; four daughters; Dorothy Hewett (Jack), Mountainair, NM, Lela Beasley (Lloyd), San Benito, TX, Mildred Fulton (Francis "Red"), Pampa, TX and Naida Green (Thomas), Liberty, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leander Grady Norris in 1953; three sons; infant son Grady Weldon in 1937, Leander John "L.J." in 1962, Louis Monroe in 1987 and one daughter, Katherine Harper in 1978.
