William J. Befort, 83, 2502 Sherman, died Wednesday Nov. 22, 2000, at the Hays Good Samaritan Center. He was born Feb. 2, 1917, in Hyacinth to John C. and Barbara (Steinbock) Befort.

He was a farmer, did custom wheat harvesting and worked in the custodial department at Fort Hays State University for 16 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Hays.

Survivors include a brother, Aloysius, Grand Island NE, five sisters, Josephine Pfeifer and Jane Gottschalk, both of Hays and Agnes England, Esther Stals and Bernice England, all of New Bedford, Mass.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Alex, Connie, Francis, Clarence and John and three sisters, Albina Pfeifer, Irene Wilson, and Elizabeth Befort.

Survivors: brother, Aloysius of Grand Island, Neb.; sisters, Josephine Pfeifer, Jane Gottschalk both of Hays, Agnes England, Esther Stals, Bernice England all of New Bedford, Mass.

Memorial established with Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home.
