Benjamin Whitener was the son of Michael Whitener and ______ Beck. He was a very young boy when he came to North Carolina with his parents and siblings about 1760. He married Mary Magdalene "Molly" Whisenhunt, daughter of Philip Whisenhunt, about 1780, and they had 15 children. All of them lived to be adults, and all married but one. These are the names of the children, who they married and the date of the marriage bond.

All of the children were married in Lincoln Co., NC. Several of Benjamin's children moved out of the Catawba Co. area. Mary is buried in Alexander Co., NC. In the 1850 and 1860 Newton Co., GA census Barbara was listed with several children. Her sister Margaret was living with her in the 1850 census. That is the last record we have of her. Barbara is buried in Rockdale Co., GA in the Sigman cemetery. Philip B. Whitener sold his land in the late 1840's and went to Tippah Co., MS. He, his wife, and children are in the 1850 and 1860 Tippah Co., MS census. Philip B.'s wife's parents were also in Tippah Co. Hannah was in the 1850 Cape Gireadeau Co., MO census with her husband and several children.

Benjamin wrote his will 18 Feb. 1816 which was probated in April 1816 in Lincoln Co., NC. In his will he calls his wife's name "Molly" and mentions every child by name. His oldest son, Daniel B. Whitener, and Daniel Conrad were the executors. His estate was divided among the older children, and the younger sons, Philip B., Joseph, David B. and Ephraim, received land. Guardians were appointed for David, Ephraim, Margaret, and Fannie.

In the Michael Weidner Cemetery there are two rocks side by side with B W and M W etched on them. The Michael Whitener Reunion descendants erected markers next to the rocks.
