Funeral services are scheduled Friday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at Lanett Congregational Christian Church with the Revs. Roy Bain and Gary Cotney officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Sorrell is survived by one grandson, Danny (Nancy) Staples of Lanett; three great-grandchildren, Tabatha Garcie of Valley, Misty Staples of Valley and Eric Staples of West Point; and five great-great-grandchildren, Wolanda Garcie of Valley, Patience Staples of Valley, Ty McCants of Valley, Maya Richardson of Valley and Dominique Johnson of Valley.
Born Aug. 5, 1913 in Chambers County, Mr. Sorrell was the son of the late Odecie Sharpe Sorrell and the late Rufus A. Sorrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Sorrell, and his daughter, Edith Staples. He worked for the city of Lanett for more than 20 years and retired as sexton of the three city cemeteries. Mr. Sorrell was active in the Lanett Congregational Christian Church and had been chairman of the board of trustees.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 23 from 7 until 9 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Lanett Congregational Christian Church, 900 S. Seventh Ave., Lanett, Ala. 36863.
