Alpheus WRIGHT bas born 19 FEB 1826 in Indiana, likely Henry County. Alpheus married (first) Huldah RATLIFF on December 6, 1849 in Henry County, Indiana. They had two sons, George, December 7, 1848, and Cyreneus Judge, Janurary 5, 1852. When Cyreneus Judge was 15 days old Huldah died of "childbed" fever. Alpheus married (second) Huldah's sister, Sarah RATLIFF, on February 19, 1853 Miami County, Indiana . To them were born Hannah and Cassius. Sarah died August 24, 1865, when Cassius was almost 5 years old. Alpheus then married (third) Amanda HENDERSON SONGER, October 2, 1866. To them were born 7 children-- Minnie, Clarence, Ernest, Cora, Bessie, Jessie, and Garvey.

Alpheus WRIGHT and family left Indiana in March 1880 for Paola, Kansas. From there they moved to Decatur, Texas in February 1881. It is thought that they worked in conjunction with the KATY railroad as it expanded. By 1889 the family had moved to the "Old Indian Territory", as per obituary of Amanda HENDERSON SONGER WRIGHT, to "Stringtown, Atoka County, Oklahoma". On June 17, 1891, Alpheus WRIGHT was appointed 1st Postmaster - Chickiechockie Post Office, Atoka County, Oklahoma. In 1892 they, again, moved to Checotah, McIntosh County, Indian Territory Oklahoma where they began construction, the following year, on the WRIGHT Hotel. On October 25, 1898 Alpheus WRIGHT was elected Alderman, Checotah, Oklahoma in first city election.

Alpheus WRIGHT died March 24, 1900 in Checotah, Oklahoma at age 74 Years, 1 Month, and 5 Days.

On May 14, 2003 - I found the grave of Alpheus WRIGHT and his son (Garvie) via his third wife Amanda HENDERSON SONGER WRIGHT locted at the Indian Territory Checotah Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma. Both 3 piece stones were detached and laying flat on the ground but in good shape. My wife (Lamia) and I hired Muskogee Marble and Granite Company to restore and reset these two head stones on a new concrete foundation. Completed in July 2003. AAM III
