Louisa was a daughter of Joseph Monroe May and his first wife, Lucinda Pendarvis May. She married William Harvey Willis about 1876. They had six children while living in Caldwell Parish. One son, Oskar Willis, died in 1886. Their other children included two sons, Ivy Hugh Willis and William Blanks Willis; and three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Martin, Mrs. Ruby Belle Scriber, and Mrs. Maud Nugent.
