He was the son of the late Thomas A. and Ella Lay Adams.
He worked as a milkman for the Kruger Dairy, Irwins Dairy and Lenkerbrook Farms, Camp Hill. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1299, Carlisle; The White Circle Club; a former member of the Friendship Fire Co. and an active player on its baseball team in the 1920s.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle, and was an avid bowler.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Jean R. Henry Adams, Carlisle; three daughters, Joyce A. Miller, Virginia A. Hertzler, Carole D. Shevlin, all of Carlisle; a son, William R. Adams Jr., Shippensburg; a brother, Robert A. Adams, Carlisle; two sisters, Jean Zeigler and Beatrice Williams, both of Carlisle; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace V. Bittinger Adams, who died in 1940; and two sisters, Edna (Adams) Goldstein and Catherine (Adams) Lindsay.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Seibold officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Viewing will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011 or to a charity of one's choice.
