John Young, Vineyardist, Dies At 75
Located in Lodi In 1911; Elder In Church Here
John Young, prominent Lodi district vineyardist, passed away at his home on Kettleman Lane at an early hour yesterday morning.
A native of Bauer, Russia, where he was born on November 15, 1868, he was 75 years of age.
Mr. Young came to this country settling at Woodbine, Kansas on June 15, 1887, There he was married to the former Miss Elizabet Scheideman on March 3, 1893. Mrs. Young passed away on March 24, 1939.
In 1897 he became a member of the Church of God and he has been a life-long member of the Lodi Seventh-Day Church of God, serving as an elder for the church for the past seven years.
Mr. Young came to Lodi on August 18, 1911, locating on the property he built into one of the fine vineyards of the district.
Mr. Young is survived by his widow, the former Katie Banik, whom he married on December 1, 1941, and by the following children: Dan Young, Mrs. Marie Baumback, Mrs. Rachel Shafer, Mrs. Lydia Wageman, Mrs. Elizabeth Baumback, all of Lodi; Mrs. Esther Seibel of Galt, Mrs. Lee Reiswig of San Jose, Emanuel Young of Lodi, Mrs. Hilda Seibel of Lodi, Reuben Young and Mrs. Eva Stevens of Lodi.
In addition, he leaves 23 grandchildren, six of whom are in the armed services, while one son-in-law, William Stevens, is also serving in the country's forces.
He also was the brother-in-law of H.E. Scheideman of Lodi, George Scheideman of Garden City, Kansas, and the late Martin Scheideman.
