The 11th of 12 children born in Springfield, IL to Thomas Joseph and Ellen Walsh Brennan. He married Eva Marie Rebuck.

"Francis J. Brennan, Sr, 57, of 6622 W. Devon, Chicago, formerly of Springfield, died in Chicago Tuesday morning. Born in Springfield, Mr. Brennan was the son of Thomas and Ellen Walsh Brennan. He was a former employee of the Illinois Watch Company and for the past 28 years he had been employed by the AB Dick Co. Mr. Brennan was a member of St. Thecia Church in Chicago. Surviving are his widow, Eva, one son, Francis J. Jr of Chicago; six sisters, Mrs. Albert Haegele, Mrs. B. Esslinger, Mrs. Ellen Russell and Miss Margaret and Miss Elizabeth Brennan all of Springfield and Mrs. FP Utterbach of Decatur; three brothers, Thomas, Martin E and John H. Brennan all of Springfield, four grandchildren. Services will be Friday at St. Thecia Church in Chicago and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chicago. Remains are at the Colonial Funeral Home at 6250 N. Milawaukee Ave, Chicago."

He was preceded in death by brothers James William 1928 and Patrick J. 1929.
