Found in The State 17 February 1962: J. W. Scott Sr., 69, retired dispatcher for the Columbia Fire Department, of 1103 Beaufort St., died early this morning in a local nursing home after a long period of declining health. Born in Richland County, he was the son of the late Daniel Scott and Donnie Kemp Scott. Prior to his retirement, he was associated with the Fire Department for 34 years. Mr. Scott was a member of Taylor Street Baptist Church, Cayce, and RIchland Masonic Lodge 39. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Helen Friday Scott; three sons, J. W. Scott Jr., Cayce, Bryan G. Scott, Columbia, and Kenneth V. Scott, U. S. Marines, Charleston; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Santeramo, Long Island, N. Y., a brother, Major Scott, Cayce; a sister, Mrs. G. S. Friday, Columbia; 12 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
