Sharon Kay Grubaugh was born in 1950 to John Millard Grubaugh and Josephine Louise Meeting. She was the youngest of their 10 children. When Sharon was still very young, her birth parents were struggling to feed all of the children, so Catholic Charities stepped in to help find the children homes. Sharon and two of her birth brothers, Louis Irvin and Michael Lee, were adopted by an older couple in Toledo, Ohio - Bernard J. Leasor and Valita A. Sendelbach. All three children acquired the surname Leasor. Sharon attended Saint Ursula Academy in Toledo. She married James Gipe in 1970 and they had 4 children - James Michael "Jamie" Gipe, Rebecca Lynn Gipe, Kevin Paul Gipe, and Jason Matthew Gipe. Sharon and James divorced in 1974 and she married Dennis Roy Freshour on 12 Sep 1974. They didn't have any children together, but Dennis had a son, Todd Freshour, from an earlier marriage. Dennis died in 2008.
