He was born October 22, 1927, son of the late Russell and Daisy (Greengrow) Alcott in Homer, NY. Ed served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp from 1951 to 1953 and the reserves until 1959. He married Freida Manwarren on January 16, 1954 in Bainbridge. Together, they built their home and raised a family, enjoying almost 60 years of marriage. Ed was employed as an LP service technician; he started working for Happy Family in 1955 and retired from Suburban Propane in 1989. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion and loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ed enjoyed camping and tending to his many flower gardens. He loved watching NASCAR and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife, Freida Alcott, Bainbridge; three daughters, Karen Conklin, Unadilla, Donna Fletcher, Bainbridge, Norma Alcott, Bainbridge; grandchildren, Danielle (Scott) Hoeppner, Whitney Point, James Fletcher, Bainbridge, Jonathan Fletcher, Whitney Point, Joshua Conklin, Idaho, Caleb (Sandra) Conklin, Knoxville, TN, Jalon Ellis, Windsor; great-grandchildren, Alex, Madison and Claire Hoeppner, Kelsey Ellis and James Conklin; brothers, Robert (Helen) Alcott, Edmeston, Raymond (Ida) Alcott, Bainbridge; sisters, Myrtle Russell, Stamford, Doris Burghardt, Bainbridge, Rosa Dutcher, Rochester; nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also predeceased by his sister, Nancy Williams.
Friends may call Wednesday, November 27, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Diarmuid O'Hara, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Bainbridge, officiating. Burial will be in West Bainbridge Cemetery at a later date.
