"Mrs. Anna Miers Gardner, aged 73, passed away at her home, 809 North Anderson street, at 1 o'clock this afternoon. She had been in failing health for some time, but not seriously so until the last three weeks. The cause of her death was a complication of diseases. The deceased had lived the greater part of her life in this city and was a member of the Christian church.

"The surviving relatives are the husband, William Gardner, two daughters, Mrs. Florence Myers of this city, and Mrs. Anna McKinsey, of Indianapolis, and two sons, Gilbert Gardner, of this city, and Harry Gardner, of Ohio. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Josephine Lawson, in Oklahoma, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral service will be announced later."

Mary Anna was the youngest daughter of Benjamin Anderson and Euphemia (Braden) Miers. According to Howe Funeral Home records, she was born Dec. 25, 1854. Her age at death was 73y, 5m and 17d. The headstone inscription of an 1860 birth obviously is incorrect.
