Thomas Jackson Miers (sometimes spelled Mires), was a son of Benjamin Anderson and Euphemia (Braden) Miers, and was a prominent farmer in Clay Township of Decatur Co., IN. He married Serilda Olivia King in Decatur Co. on May 20, 1866, and the couple parented eight children, two of whom died in infancy. Tom's obituary follows:

"Thomas J. Miers, son of Anderson and Famia (sic) Miers, was born in Decatur county March 8, 1845. He was one of a family of five children, and died suddenly at his home near Ewington April 5, 1904. He was married to Sarilda King May 10, 1860, by Rev. Presley Jones To them eight children were born, six sons and two daughters, two dying in infancy. He united with the Christian church in Milford in 1870......Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. H. Morrow. Interment in the Milford cemetery."

The children of Tom and S. Olivia used the name Miers, with the exception of son John and his descendants who chose, instead, the name Mires. This spelling difference has caused much confusion in placing the children of Thomas J. and S. Olivia (King) into the correct family. The progeny of this couple are as follows:

John A. (m Fannie Pavy)
Sarah Jane (d before 1900)
Kittie (m John Hunter)
George King (m Cora A. Jones)
James (d Jan 1919)
Willard A. (m Bertha Lambert)
Marshall Grover (m Bertie A. Parrott)
Unknown (bur Milford 1893)
