OBITUARY: Death of Mrs. M. E. Alston
"Blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints."
The beautiful glowing life of Midway's dearest loved person came to an end Tuesday morning at 5 o'clock when Mrs. Genie Alston, with the sparkle in her eye and smile on her face, stepped confidently into Her Father's Home. She had spent her ninety years to the very best advantage serving God and her fellow man. She was a loyal member of the Methodist Church. Her home life was of such charming nature that her friends were never ready to leave when they visited her.
For the past two years she had not been so well, after one of her bad spells she would ask for the book she had been reading and ask about her friends who had been to see her.
Her "Valentine Birthdays" were great occasions when her daughters, Genniemae and Alma, entertained so beautifully for their mother.
Mrs. Alston's passing will be felt by young and old white and colored, for to know her was to love her. The memory of her life will be a shining light to point the way for her many loved ones.
She is survived by her four children, Mrs. John Branscomb and Miss Alma Alston, who lived with their mother, E. Turman Alston, of Bogalusa, Louisiana, and Henry Alston, of Atlanta; and a large number of grandchildren and great grand children.
Funeral services were conducted at 4 P. M. Wednesday at the home by Rev. H. L/ Tate assisted by Rev. W. T. Davidson.
Surrounded by lovely flowers her body was tenderly laid to rest in Midway Cemetery, with Alley Feneral Company in charge.
Among the great number of relatives and friends who attended the funeral of Mrs. Alston were: Mr. M. E. Alston, Mr. Edward Alston, and Mrs. Robert Moore (Marie Alston), of Bogalusa, Louisiana, Mrs. Earline Rabum of Washington State; Mr. Henry Alston, of Atlanta; Mrs. Elsie DuPre of Macon, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Alston Branscomb, and daughter Eugenia, of Sheffield, Mr. and Mrs. Louis [sic for Lewis] Branscomb, of Dothan, Miss Lucile [sic for Lucille] Branscomb, Jacksonville, Ala., Mrs. Keel and Miss Ina Alston, of Cuthbert, Georgia. Mrs. Fitzhugh Lee, Mrs. Adams, Miss Carol Pruett, Miss Irma Pruett and MRs. Bell from Montgomery. A large crowd of relatives and friends from Union Springs, Spring Hill, Comer and Clayton.
Obituary saved by her daughters Eugenia "Genie Mae" Alston [Branscomb] and Alma Alston.
