Child of JAMES MERRIMAN ALSTON and MARY EUGENIA TURMAN ALSTON:
MATTIE URLINE ALSTON, b. 08/24/1882, died 2/10/1938

Death of Miss Mattie Alston [newspaper clipping placed in family Bible]
The life of Miss Mattie Urline Alston, daughter of Mrs. M. E. Alston and the late James M. Alston, was transplanted to her heavenly home Thursday at noon, February tenth. Her death occurred at her home in Midway, following an illness of heart trouble of several years' duration.
Her sweet Christian character was always beautifully apparent. She was a member of the Methodist Church and attended services regularly as long as she was able. Her disposition was gentle, sympathetic and kind, always her first interest being for anyone who was sick or in trouble. For Christian spirits like hers, Heaven's portals open wide.
Surviving are her mother, Mrs. M. E. Alston, two sisters, Mrs. Norwood Branscomb and Miss Alma Alston, of Midway, and two brothers, Mr. E. T. Alston, Bogalusa, La., and Mr. W. H. Alston, of Atlanta, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the home Saturday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. Luther Gilmer, assisted by Rev. Mahaffey.
Mrs. G. A. Orum sang the solo, "Somewhere the Sun is Shining." Mrs. S. T. Pruett, Miss Katie Belle Anthony and Mrs. G. A. Orum sang "Asleep in Jesus."
Following the service, interment was in Oakwood Cemetery [AKA Midway Cemetery] with Alley Undertaking Co. in charge.
Here, after a brief prayer, her body banked with flowers she loved so well, was left in God's care
