Funeral services for James Monroe Shelton, 89, were held at 2 o'clock Saturday at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mr. Shelton died Thursday, January 4, at his residence after a sudden illness.

A life-long resident of Winn Parish, he was a retired school bus driver and a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, James Leo Shelton; two daughters, Mrs. Marlin Collins and Mrs. Bluch Haddox, all of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. Ruthie Hughes and Mrs. Minnie Philan, both of Shreveport; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Lloyd Collins, Shelton Collins, Steve Shelton, Mark Shelton, Houston Etheridge, Jr., and Frank Mobley.

Attending the funeral Sunday, January 7, 1979, of James Monroe Shelton from out of town were: Mrs. Ernest Hughes and her family, Mrs. W. Philan and her family, Mrs. V. L. Shelton and Pugh Shelton, all of Shreveport; Mr. and Mrs. Shelton Collins and Stan, Edgar Jackson, Alan Mobley of NSU, all of Monroe, and Miss Mary L. Alpin of Harrisonburg; Dr. and Mrs. Frank Mobley, Jeanine and Diane of Bogalusa.

Also Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Collins of Hodge; Dr. John Mitchell and Mr. Guy Mitchell both of Lafayette; Mr. and Mrs. Aswell Shelton of Laurel, Mississippi; Mrs. Haydee Luther of Montgomery; Mr. and Mrs. Gastron [sic Gaston] England and Mr. Roy Dickerson, both of Baton Rouge; Mr. and Mrs. Orin Dickerson of Alexandria and Messrs. Burnell and Ezra Luther of Nederland, Texas.
