Mr. Shelton, a lifelong resident of Winn Parish, had been a deacon for over 65 years. In addition to being a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, he took an active part in civic and community activities.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. E. B. Barton and Rev. T. T. Edwards officiating.
Interment was in the Sardis Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mary Shelton, Sardis; five sons, J. T. Shelton, Bossier City; J. B. Shelton, Dodson; J. W. Shelton, Calvin; Monroe and V. L. Shelton both of Winnfield; two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Phillen and Mrs. E. J. Hugh, both of Shreveport, and 28 grandchildren.
