He was born first generation American in Wayne Wisconsin on December 4th, 1877 to Conrad Simon and Catherine Steffen Simon.

He married Katherine "Kattie" Bertha Hildman on July 5th, 1910 in Wesley Iowa. Together they had 7 children, four of the children (Leona, Claver, Anna, and Rosemary) were born in Colorado and the remaining child (Linus, Peter, and Leo) were born in Wisconsin.

According to Kilian's WWI Draft Registration card serial number 660, submitted on September 12t, 1918, he described himself as; 41 years old, a farmer, white race, married, medium height and medium build with blue eyes and black hair. The document was excepted by the Local Board of Kit Carson County in Burlington Colorado.

According to the family 1920 US Census Kilian spoke German.

According to the family 1930 US Census Kilian could read and write and was listed as a farmer.

Kilian passed away from stomach cancer on April 1st, 1932 in Ashford Wisconsin. Kattie passed years later on December 31st, 1975. They are buried next to each other in Saint Kilian Cemetery (on a hill) near the St. Kilian Catholic Church in Saint Kilian Wisconsin
