Asa was the son of Asa Cole and Anna Goldsmith of Harvard, Mass. and Westmoreland, New Hampshire. He married first on 10 Mar 1821 Marcia KNIGHT of Rindge, NH, b. 16 Aug 1793, d. 15 Mar 1839, then married second in Medway, MA 13 Nov 1839 Meletiah "Millie" Metcalf FAIRBANKS. Asa was a farmer most of his life, and was called by the Cole family genealogist, Frank T. Cole, a man of immense physical strength and endurance. He represented Medway in the Massachusetts Legislature in 1841. Asa and Meletiah appear in the 1860 census for W. Medway with their five children, and in Medway in 1870 with two of their children, Charles and Millie. Asa was called an invalid in the 1870 census.
